Oak

This tree is the emblem of hospitality and strength.

The bark, leaves and acorns all have medicinal uses.

Couples married under oak trees before the advent of Christianity and the oak was associated with thunder gods such as Thor, as its low electrical reistance caused it to be struck by lightening.

When Christianity arrived, the gospel was often preached under the shade of an oak tree, giving rise to 'Gospel Oak' place names.
